Defcon16 wrapup
For those hackers (most of you) that keep an eye on the old-school security hacking DEFCON 16 just ended yesterday in Las Vegas. So below is our quick wrap-up of DEFCON 16, the highlights and lowlights of a week of security conference madness.
Medeco keys get recreated just from pictures. Whoops? At least it's not a bic pen?
Wired got a tour of DEFCON 16 NOC keeping tabs on that has got to be one of the most awesome network management tasks ever.
Massachusetts successfully got an injunction to gag a talk about hacking their subway system. This being 2007 and all, the talk was already part of the attendee package, and immedatly becomes available on the internet (PDF) and more popular and widespread than if they had let the whole thing alone. Censorship fail?
The wall of sheep was back, of course. And on top of that, someone is going to turn it into a startup.
Sherry Davidoff flew to DEFCON with No ID.
And some reporters get into the spirit of things, and hack some other reporters, and they get hell for it. (Reporters generally get their own network at these cons. A 'safe' network. Those Lucky dogs...)
