RFID help needed

Are you an engineer or hardware hacker with some experience in using simple RFID systems?

Matt is a student at Uarts, and he is looking for help with an installation project involving sound, video, RFID, and maybe more.

He needs some information on getting an RFID tag reader to talk to Max/MSP, and we are hoping someone out there in the hacktory virtual community can offer it.

If you are interested in getting involved send an email to contact [at] thehacktory [dot] org

Thanks!

Vox Populi Gallery shows some geek

The Vox Populi gallery (319 North 11th Street, 3rd Floor Philadelphia), has an interesting exhibit by Maximillian Lawrence every hacker should check out. The show runs until December 30, so hurry on over.
Here is the description from Vox Populi.

"The Darlington Pair Maximillian Lawrence will be creating a device he refers to as a “relationship amplifier”, based on the electronic principle of a Darlington Pair. (A Darlington pair is a set of two transistors that amplify weak signals into stronger and sharper signals for both audio and microprocessing) In the best case, the gallery space will amplify the relationships between the people interacting with the musical instruments, culminating into a spectacularly blinding light and resonant bowel moving sound show, ending with a profound spiritual experience. In its worst case, it will flash LED’s and make fart noises."

December Make Philly

In case you haven't heard Philebrity and in Geekadelphia over the last couple of days.

Can you think of anything cooler than 50+ geeks, artists, and regular folks getting together to talk about DIY art and electronics? I can think of at least one. That is 50+ geeks, artists, and regular folks getting together to invent stuff on the spot!

Thanks to Brian and Kelli for their great talk, to Harris, Josh and Vanja for putting together a great event each month.

Arduino class update

Well folks, as of this morning the January 5th Arduino class is sold out!

Not only that, but we have a 4 person waiting list from people who attended last nights makephilly meeting.

I am getting excited since the boxes have started coming in by UPS.
The Arduino Decimilla boards showed up today (15 of 'em, wish they were all mine!), and UPS tracking says there are three more boxes of goodies on the way. The parts kits will be pretty much the same as last time. lots of blue LEDs, an RGB LED, a powerful gear motor, a solenoid, light sensors, temperature sensor, sound sensor, the works. Plus an Arduino (of course) a nice switching power supply, and a big solderless breadboard for prototyping.

If you are in the class we will see you on the 5th.

If you did not get in this time please send me an email at contact [at] thehacktory [dot] org and I will put you on the waitlist.

Remember Monome at makephilly this Sunday!

MONOME!

The next meeting of MakePhilly will feature guest speakers Brian Crabtree and Kelli Cain of Monome who design adaptable, minimalist interfaces right here in Philadelphia.

Brian and Kelli will discuss sustainable local manufacturing and the process of evolving a personal project into an international community exploration. They will also show documentation from their mechanical installation work, including an algorithmic networked egg-tapping drum machine.
