The Hacktory heads to The Next HOPE

The Next HOPE

Thousand of hackers are heading to New York City this Fri/Sat/Sun (July 16-18) for The Next HOPE (Hackers On Planet Earth) - the largest hacker gathering on the east coast and a biennial tradition since 1994.

Over 100 speakers in four tracks over three days will present a plethora of interesting topics to the curious, and dozens of demos, exhibits, projects, and workshops will guarantee a good time for all.

The Hacktory will host a table in the Hackerspace Village, where other hackerspaces from around the world will demo their work and share ideas about their projects. Artist Wil Lindsay will present his homebrew electronic visual art, and kinetic sculptor Brad Litwin will demo his amazing interactive creations.

Friday night Wil Lindsay and Don Miller will dazzle a chiptunes concert audience with their mesmerizing visuals, while Cheap Dinosaurs and Animalstyle will perform awesome music with modified electronic games and instruments.

The Next HOPE is something that can't be adequately described and must be experienced. Most HOPE attendees are repeat comers, and prepare two years for The Next HOPE. Stop by and meet The Hacktory staff, and enjoy what promises to be a very memorable, educational, and fun event.

Fantastic lineup for 8static this Saturday!

Nullsleep at 8static

The 8static crew has been busy reinforcing the walls at Studio 34 and putting up fliers warning children and the elderly to steer clear of West Philadelphia on June 12th. Nullsleep is coming to town, and we can only hope our new soundsystem won’t be sucked into the spacetime rift created during his set. Opening for Nullsleep will be Philadelphia’s brave Magoni & Chaffel, followed by NYC’s Starscream. They’ll have time to flee before Nullsleep takes the stage, but enso & NO CARRIER were naive enough to think they could withstand doing visuals the entire night.

Quench your thirst for beer and science this summer!

One of our favorite watering holes National Mechanics is hosting Science on Tap, a monthly science lecture sponsored by the Academy of Natural Sciences, the The American Philosophical Society (APS) Museum, CHF, and the Wagner Free Institute of Science. Don't expect a snore symphony though, these talks are aimed curious, inquisitive young minds, so bring your questions!

The next event will be June 14 featuring “The Slippery Facts About Oil Spills” presented by David Velinsky, Vice President for Environmental Research and Senior Scientist, Geochemistry Section, Academy of Natural Sciences.

Come check it out with us, or read more about it here on the Chemical Heritage Foundation's website.
